German Bratwurst Dinner

Bratwurst in Gravy
Serves 4

Cooking Time - approx. 1 hour
Serve with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut, made or bought separately

Ingredients:

6-8 bratwurst (brats, or other German sausages)
1 tbsp butter (or olive oil, or margarine)
1 bottle dark beer
1 can Campbell's Golden Cream of Mushroom soup
(Optional: 1 2 tsp caraway seeds)

Directions
In a large frying pan, brown the brown the bratwurst till golden dark brown, with the butter.
Pour the bottle of dark beer and mushroom soup in pan with the browned brats. If using caraway seeds, add them. Bring to quick boil, lower the heat to simmer, and simmer uncovered for about 45 minutes, or until sausages are not red in the middle.

Serve with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut from a can or jar, or with cooked red cabbage. Red cabbage is available in jars in some markets, or it can be made at home. See recipe (takes about an hour to make German red cabbage).
