German Beers
Types of Beer:
- Altbier-a copper-bronze colored beer made mostly around Dusseldorf, Germany. The word "alt" is German for old. This beer refers to a type of beer style older than the lager.
- Berliner Weiss-a Berlin, Germany style wheat beer (naturally carbonated and on the sweet side).
- Kristallweizen-a Bavarian style wheat beer that is filtered.
- Hefeweizen-a Bavarian wheat beer.
- Bock-a strong version of a lager beer.
- Dunkel-a German dark beer.
- Munchener Helles-a light in color version of a lager beer from Munich, Germany.
- Pils-refers to a pilsner, which is often a lighter beer in color, but can often be slightly bitter in taste.
- Rauchbier-this means smoked beer. The malt in this beer is dried by a heat source.
- Maerzen or Oktoberfest-beer typically served brewed in March and served in the autumn. Often an amber colored beer.
